The red seven count is another widely popular system among card counters. It is actually a simple level 1 and one of the easier systems to use. There is a small difference in this strategy compared to many of the others and it has to do with the seven point cards. This is also one of the few systems in blackjack that actually depends on what suit and color the cards have as well.

Like the zen count system, the red seven system was made popular in the book 'Blackbelt in Blackjack' authored by Arnold Snyder. He describes this system in great detail in his book and shows players how to learn the correct methods. Surprisingly, there are actually many different varieties of this count. Red 7 has other variations described on the internet and in books but the one on this page is the most popular and most widely used one so we recommend using this one.

First of all, this count has an easy difficulty range and is a level-one or single-level system. This means the numbers in the count ranges from (-1,0,+1). So you only need to keep track of 3 different count values among all the cards. The major twist in the red seven card counting system is when the dealer deals a red seven either to themselfves or to the players. The black 7 cards will count as 0 but a red seven will count as +1 point. You could just call it the black seven count as well but it wouldn't make a difference.

In some cases, people just try counting all sevens as +0.5 points but we all know how complicated it can be for a beginner to try counting half decimal places. This is one of the variations mentioned elsewhere but it is just easier to count with whole numbers. By all means, if you are advanced enough, then you may gain an extremely small edge by counting +0.5 whenever any seven is dealt.

The index is shown below with a distribution of count values per card values. Remember, the column on the left is what card is dealt onto the table while the column on the right tells you what numbers you should add to your running count. This all needs to be done in your head using a mental sum.

Red Zen Counter Stools

The red seven count is actually very powerful for being such a simple system. There are more advanced ones that are harder to learn but the red 7 is actually 80% efficient compared to the highly advanced ones. There is only that extra 20% more improvement you can theoretically make to improve your odds even more so this is a great system to use if you are novice or just learning to count cards.

Count

Remember that a high positive count is great for you. This is when your edge over the house is greatest and you should be betting big here. Likewise, when the count is low such as a negative total number, your statistical odds percentage is much lower than normal and you should bet the minimum here.

Red Seven Count Strategies and Pivot Points

I am going to describe a simple way to know when your advantage is greater than the house edge. A great way to start this system is to multiply the number of decks by -2. For example, if you have eight decks, then your starting running count would be -16. Now you just need to keep playing the game and keeping track of the count. When you start getting rid of the lower card, your count will start to increase to -15, -14 and so on. Eventually you will get to a count of 0, which will be your pivot point. At this point you will essentially have a 1% edge over the casino!! It would be wise to continue to start making large wagers and big bets while the count is above zero because the probability odds are in your favor. Of course, you must be playing basic strategy perfectly in order to keep this edge going. Think of it as a power play time.

You still shouldn't go all in and bet everything though. A 1% advantage is huge for card counting, but overall, it is not that huge. The dealer still can win just as often as you do. This edge means you will win big money in the long term and it is still possible to lose a lot in the short term.

Red Zen Card Counting System

There are a few other great strategies you can use in the red seven blackjack system. For example, you can take insurance in a single deck or double deck game when you have a count that is higher than 0. This is good strategy because now there are more tens in the deck so the dealer is also more likely to get a 10 as well. Also, if the count is 0 or higher, you should stand when you have a 16 and the dealer has 10. Also stand when you have 12 and the dealer has a 3 because basic strategy changes slightly with the count since the odds are all dynamic.

When the count is +2 or higher, stand on a 12 when the dealer has a 2 and also stand on 15 when the dealer has a 10. Do this always and always choose to the double down option whenever you have a 10 and the dealer has an ace whenever you have a count of +2 or higher. These are just a few of the best tips and strategies to use when playing blackjack with the seven count.
